A New Year Surprise Awaits: Hidden Delights in Chentangguan Village——Pui Kiu Xinyi Kindergarten Warmly Invites Families to a Parent–Child Lunar New Year Fair

As the Year of the Horse draws near, the campus of Shenzhen Hong Kong Pui Kiu College Longhua Xinyi Kindergarten is already filled with a festive glow. Like warm winter sunshine, the spirit of the Lunar New Year is quietly spreading across the school. Centred on the theme "Chentangguan Village Lunar New Year Fair", preparations are well under way, thoughtfully planned by our teachers. Step onto the campus and you are greeted by children's laughter ringing through the air, and a lively scene steeped in traditional culture. Guided by their teachers, our "little villagers" are exploring the story of Nezha, taking part in immersive folk games, and experiencing the richness of Lunar New Year traditions through joyful, hands-on activities. Every stage of preparation is carefully designed with learning in mind—allowing children to welcome the Lunar New Year with delight while deepening their understanding of traditional culture through practice and play. And now, the celebration is about to grow even warmer. A parent–child Lunar New Year Fair is coming soon. Before it opens, let us take you behind the scenes and share some highlights from the preparations.

Meeting Brave Nezha and Discovering Cultural Roots

"Why did Nezha stir up the sea?" "Can the Red Armillary Sash really defeat the villains?" Daily Chinese lessons have transformed into a child-friendly "mythology exploration camp". Teachers become lively storytellers, using expressive voices and animated gestures to bring the tale of Nezha Conquers the Sea vividly to life—from his miraculous birth, to his courage in the face of adversity, and the warmth of friendship along the way. The children listen with rapt attention, eyes shining with curiosity and admiration, eagerly raising their hands to ask questions as animated story discussions unfold.

Beyond storytelling, teachers also lead engaging "mini lessons on traditional culture". Making the most of the Lunar New Year season, they turned customs such as writing the "fu" character, dragon and lion dances, and festive foods into child-friendly quizzes and short role-play activities. "What does the 'fu' character symbolise?" "Why do people perform dragon and lion dances—to wish for good weather and a good harvest in the coming year?" With the support of brightly coloured images, lively animated clips, and hands-on materials such as red paper and dragon-dance props, children learn by seeing, listening, touching and talking. In this rich, multi-sensory experience, they come to understand the meaning behind traditional festivals, while seeds of cultural pride quietly take root.

To create a fully immersive experience, teachers and children have jointly prepared ten themed folk-culture stalls. From stall design to game rules, the children are actively involved, turning the fair into a practical stage for developing creativity, cooperation and problem-solving skills.

At the "Red Armillary Sash Dragon Dance" stall, children practise in groups, learning how to move the dragon head in time with the drumbeat. Through teamwork and encouragement, they not only master basic movements but also experience first-hand the power of cooperation. At the "Nezha Shadow Puppetry" stall, children handle delicate shadow puppets of Nezha and Ao Bing, learning how to bring classic scenes to life. As their fingers move skilfully, fine motor skills are strengthened and the characters' friendship quietly takes shape in their imaginations.

Other stalls—writing "fu" characters, printing New Year couplets, solving lantern riddles, and playing traditional pitch-pot games—are equally rich in meaning. As they practised writing the "fu" character, teachers offered patient, step-by-step guidance—from how to hold the brush to the correct stroke order. Along the way, the children not only picked up basic writing skills but also came to appreciate the good wishes and blessings embodied in the character.

In the couplet-printing activity, children carefully tried their hand at traditional rubbing techniques. Watching each ink-scented New Year couplet take shape brought visible pride and delight to their faces.

Lantern riddles and traditional pitch-pot games added to the fun, helping children sharpen their thinking and focus in a relaxed, joyful setting. Around the classroom, handmade crafts and handwritten "fu" characters turned the space into a festive corner of Chentangguan Village, with every detail capturing a moment of the children's growing confidence and progress.

Parent–Child Creations: Capturing the Warmth of the Lunar New Year

The festive preparations extend beyond the campus into homes, where children and parents embark together on a Lunar New Year craft-making journey. Families choose materials such as coloured paper, ribbons and clay, brainstorm ideas, and create riddles together. Children eagerly share their thoughts, while parents patiently guide and support them. These shared moments—hands working side by side, ideas exchanged—fill each creation with warmth and love. The finished works will be displayed throughout the school corridors and stairways, wrapping the kindergarten in a rich Lunar New Year atmosphere and a strong sense of family connection. Through parent–child collaboration, children strengthen practical skills and experience the warmth and power of family support.

A Warm Invitation: The Parent–Child Lunar New Year Fair

Guided by their teachers, the children have explored the depth of traditional culture, grown through hands-on experiences, and embraced the joyful spirit of the Lunar New Year. We now warmly invite parents to share in this happiness. On 6th February, we sincerely invite you and your child to join us at the Pui Kiu Xinyi Kindergarten Parent–Child Lunar New Year Fair.

This is more than a festive fair—it is a shared journey of growth, love and companionship. Together, you can explore folk-culture stalls, experience traditions through play, and create precious Lunar New Year memories filled with laughter and warmth.

The Chentangguan Village Lunar New Year Fair is ready, filled with festive cheer and heartfelt anticipation. We look forward to welcoming you and your child to this special celebration of culture, love and growth.

Admission Application Procedure

Notes of Admission Application for 2026-2027 Kindergarten

1.Application Procedures

· The submission period for admission application will end on 7th March 2026.

· Parents are required to apply online by completing the application form on our website. Upon confirmation of your application (with candidate number), applicants will be invited to join the admission assessment which will be held in end of March 2026.

2.The assessment arrangements will be announced on our school website on 14 March 2026 (Saturday) after 6:00 p.m. Parents are required to make use of the “Candidate Number” of your child in enquiring about the arrangements.

Required Document (Upload via our online application system)

· Student’s recent colour photo (1.5 x 2 inch)

· Identity Document(s) of student (Copy)

· Copies of year-end school reports (If any)

· Student learning portfolio (If any): Recommendation letters, records of extra-curricular activities or awards

3.Proposed School fees

New Student school fees for the year of 2025/2026: CNY160,000 per year, payable in 2 installments.
