Shenzhen Hong Kong Pui Kiu College Longhua Xinyi School Celebrates Fifth Anniversary with Successful Joint Schools Sports Day——Olympic Champions Ms. KONG Man-wai and Mr. LEI Sheng Visit Campus

On 31st January 2026, Shenzhen Hong Kong Pui Kiu College Longhua Xinyi School (PKXYS) marked its fifth anniversary with a grand Joint Schools Sports Day. Using sport to strengthen friendship and exchange, the event became a focal point for educational and sporting interaction between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. The occasion was honoured by the presence of two Olympic fencing champions—Ms. KONG Man-wai, Women's Épée Champion at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, and Mr. LEI Sheng, Men's Foil Champion at the 2012 London Olympic Games—together with representatives from various sectors in both cities, providing a vivid example of fostering youth integration across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Organised by Hong Kong Pui Kiu Educational Foundation and hosted by PKXYS, the Sports Day brought together four Pui Kiu institutions—PKXYS, Pui Kiu College, Pui Kiu Middle School, and Pui Kiu Primary School. Nearly 500 student athletes and more than 500 parents participated, with sport serving as a bridge to deepen inter-school bonds and explore innovative paths for educational collaboration in the Greater Bay Area.

Four Schools, Sports in Full Swing

The opening ceremony was simple yet solemn, featuring the national anthem, a speech by Head Principal Mr. WU Yuk Chi, and the athletes' oath. Symbolic mascots representing each sport were tossed to the audience, officially signalling the start of the competition. Track and field, football, basketball, badminton, table tennis, and swimming events followed, with students giving their all on the field and showcasing youthful energy and spirit.

Champions on Campus, Shining Bright

The most anticipated highlight of the day was the campus visit by the Olympic champions. Ms. KONG Man-wai, a member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong, and Mr. LEI Sheng visited the school's Grand Hall to deliver a unique "Olympic Champion Coaching Session", which was met with warm and enthusiastic applause. The two fencing champions provided on-site guidance for PKXYS students, demonstrating techniques, sharing practical competition experience, and offering words of encouragement.

In a subsequent interview with the PKXYS student reporters, Ms. KONG Man-wai encouraged students to pursue their dreams with courage and to enjoy the process of striving forward. She also expressed her hope to create more opportunities in the future to enhance Hong Kong's international appeal and influence in culture and tourism. Mr. LEI Sheng encouraged students to be well prepared when facing challenges, to adjust their mindset, and to never give up. This close, face-to-face exchange greatly inspired both students and teachers, firmly embedding the values of perseverance and excellence across the campus.

A Grand Closing with Distinguished Guests

The closing and awards ceremony brought together dignitaries from Hong Kong and Shenzhen to witness the students' achievements. Key attendees included Ms. KONG Man-wai (SBS, MH); Mr. LEI Sheng; Mr. Perry YIU Pak-leung (MH, JP), a member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong and the Vice Chairman of China Travel Service (Hong Kong); Mr. QIN Jingteng, Deputy Director General of the United Front Work Department of Shenzhen Municipal Committee; Mr. TSANG Yok Sing (GBM, GBS, JP), Vice Chairman of Pui Kiu Educational Foundation and Supervisor of PKXYS and Pui Kiu College; Mr. ZHAN Huijun, Standing Committee Member of the Longhua District Party Committee and Director General of the United Front Work Department; Ms. YANG Nan, Deputy Director General of the Longhua District United Front Work Department and Director of the District Office for Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs; Mr. CHEN Haiming, Deputy Director General of the Longhua District Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports Bureau; Ms. YIN Zeli, Deputy Director General of the Education Supervision Office of Longhua District People's Government and Head of the Physical Education, Health, Arts and Labour Section; Mr. CHOW Sai Yiu, Development Director of Pui Kiu Educational Foundation and Director of PKXYS; Ms. LEE Pui Ah, Director of PKXYS; Mr. WU Yuk Chi, Head Principal of PKXYS and Pui Kiu College; Mr. Tommy WONG Tang Tat, Principal of PKXYS; Dr. WANG Hongjun, Executive Principal of PKXYS; Ms. Sulina YIP, Head Principal of Pui Kiu International Kindergarten & Nursery and Pui Kiu Xinyi Kindergarten; Mr. TSANG Chi Kwan, Assistant Principal of Pui Kiu Middle School; Mr. LEUNG Kam Fai, Department Head of Pui Kiu Primary School; and Mr. WONG Wai Shing, Deputy Principal of Pui Kiu College and PKXYS, among others.

In his speech, Supervisor TSANG Yok Sing praised the success of the Sports Day and expressed gratitude to the Olympic champions and all supporting parties. Ms. KONG Man-wai also spoke to encourage students to cherish their time, give their all, enjoy the present, and strive wholeheartedly towards their dreams.

At the ceremony, Supervisor Mr. TSANG Yok Sing, Directors Mr. CHOW Sai Yiu and Ms. LEE Pui Ah, and Head Principal Mr. WU Yuk Chi presented certificates of appreciation to key guests, including Ms. KONG Man-wai, Mr. LEI Sheng, and Mr. Perry YIU Pak-leung. The two champions in turn presented certificates to supporting organisations, before joining the award presenters in handing out prizes to the winning teams. The event concluded on a high note with the entire school singing the school song.

As a benchmark for Hong Kong–Shenzhen educational integration, and the first and only international school in the country offering Mainland, Hong Kong, and international curricula simultaneously, PKXYS successfully hosted this Joint Schools Sports Day. With guidance from Olympic champions and hands-on competition between students from both cities, the event created a platform that promotes exchange through sport and inspires growth through role models.

The Sports Day not only added a vibrant chapter to PKXYS's fifth-anniversary celebrations but also brought fresh momentum to Hong Kong–Shenzhen educational collaboration and youth integration across the Greater Bay Area.
