With Devotion, We Salute the Flag; With Youth, We Guard the Glory of China

If belief had a colour, it would be China red. If youth needed a role model, it would be the passionate figures standing tall beneath the national flag. As the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China approaches, our Primary and Secondary Moral and National Education Departments have jointly launched a themed National Day event, "With Devotion, We Salute the Flag; With Youth, We Guard the Glory of China". The event aims to cultivate patriotism and strengthen students' emotional connection to the nation.

We were honoured to welcome members of the Chixin National Flag Guard — former soldiers of the People's Liberation Army's (PLA) honour guard. In the past, they stood at dawn to raise the flag in Tiananmen Square, demonstrating the highest loyalty to the motherland. This time, they came to Pui Kiu Xinyi School to fulfil a special promise — one of honour, belief, and youth.

Event Highlights

A Ceremony of Honour and Precision

Students witnessed the former Tiananmen flag guards perform a solemn flag-raising ceremony. With their precise movements and dignified presence, they brought to life the grace and discipline of a great nation's ceremonial tradition — an unforgettable lesson in patriotism.

Leading by Example, Speaking from the Heart

Our Executive Principal, Dr. WANG Hongjun, gave a heartfelt address, sharing her personal connection with the national flag. She reflected on the duties of youth in today's era and inspired students to take on their responsibilities with courage and pride.

Passing the Torch, Walking Together

In a specially arranged guest interview session, the former flag guards held face-to-face exchanges with members of our student flag-raising team. Our students asked questions about techniques and posture, experiencing first-hand the weight of responsibility that comes with raising the flag. Through this moment, the spirit of patriotism was passed from one generation to the next.

The national flag is a symbol of our country, and a source of pride for our nation. What the flag guards protect is not just a piece of cloth, but the shared faith and honour of all Chinese people. Through this rare experience, our students were able to:

· Feel the solemnity and sacredness of the national flag.

· Understand the deeper meaning of patriotism.

· Be inspired to study hard for the rejuvenation of our nation.

· Live out the solemn vow: With youth, we guard the glory of China.

In addition to the flag-raising team, our Moral Ambassadors also joined the National Day celebration in a lively and creative way. They prepared booths featuring drama, sand painting, virtual reality, and more — sharing the joy of National Day with their fellow students.

In this stirring patriotic celebration, under the proud rise of the five-star red flag, we salute the flag with our devotion and guard our nation with our youth.
