Our School Choir Invited to Record for the 2026 CMG Children's Spring Festival Gala——Performing Chasing the Light Online

On the first day of the Chinese New Year, the 2026 CMG Children's Spring Festival Gala was broadcast on China Media Group's CCTV-1. Our school choir was honoured to be invited by CMG Sports & Youth Programs Center to record the song Chasing the Light, joining more than ten choirs from across the country in an online performance. Sharing the screen remotely with the famed vocalist Mr. LIAO Changyong, our students sang for audiences nationwide, bringing vibrant energy and a message of hope that captured the joy of the New Year and the aspirations of a new generation.

As a leading example of Shenzhen–Hong Kong educational integration, and the first and only international school in China to offer simultaneously the Mainland Curriculum, the Hong Kong Curriculum and the International Curriculum, Pui Kiu Xinyi School is committed to nurturing well-rounded development alongside a strong sense of national identity and social responsibility. The school choir, a cornerstone of our arts education, has performed at numerous major celebrations and has earned wide acclaim from across the community.

At the Grade 12 Graduation Ceremony in July 2025, witnessed by distinguished guests from both Shenzhen and Hong Kong, the choir joined forces with the string orchestra and the Chinese orchestra to perform Our Home. Their warm harmonies conveyed heartfelt blessings to the graduates and reflected the school's enduring role as a place of belonging.

In addition, at a commemorative artistic performance marking the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, Pui Kiu Xinyi School students presented a poetry recital, Chimes of Blood and Fire, and a choral performance of Ode to the Motherland. With powerful voices, they honoured history and expressed the shared patriotism of young people from Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

Earlier, in 2024, our Secondary School Choir and a young pianist were invited to perform at the 25th National Hearing Day Charity Concert at Shenzhen Grand Theatre Concert Hall, appearing alongside the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra and the famous mezzo-soprano Ms. LI Ying in a performance of The Whisper of the Hourglass, a theme song composed for the National Hearing Day. In 2022, during celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland, the Pui Kiu Xinyi School Choir was invited to take part in the "Music in Unity" Concert. Together with the Shenzhen Rainbow Youth Choir and artists from both Guangdong and Hong Kong, they performed a selection of classic works at Shenzhen Concert Hall, using music to foster cultural exchange between the two cities and to showcase the shared heritage of the Greater Bay Area.

From stages celebrating Hong Kong's return, to commemorative performances honouring history, and now to a national children's Spring Festival Gala broadcast, the Pui Kiu Xinyi School Choir continues to express the patriotism and artistic aspirations of young people in the Greater Bay Area through song. This invitation from China Media Group to perform alongside Mr. LIAO Changyong and choirs from across the nation not only recognises the achievements of our arts education, but also reflects the active engagement of our Shenzhen and Hong Kong students in the country's development and in shaping the future.
