Spring's Mission: Building Dreams and Soaring——3rd Secondary Division Chinese Culture Festival Celebrates School's 5th Anniversary

4th February 2026 – the solar term of Beginning of Spring – also marked the fifth anniversary of Shenzhen Hong Kong Pui Kiu College Longhua Xinyi School (PKXYS). Under the theme "Spring Blossoms, Dreams Soar", the Secondary Division proudly hosted its 3rd Chinese Culture Festival. Guided by the Hong Kong Curriculum Section and organised by the Hong Kong Curriculum Chinese Language Department, the event brought together teachers and students from the Mainland, Hong Kong and International curricula. United in spirit, the school community immersed itself in the richness and depth of Chinese culture. Through a vibrant programme of activities, the celebration not only painted a picture of youthful energy across the campus, but also deepened students' sense of cultural identity and national belonging, adding meaningful cultural resonance to the school's fifth anniversary.

From the outset, members of the Principal's Office carefully planned the opening ceremony, ushering in the warmth of the New Year. Student leaders from academic teams devoted themselves to preparing and presenting their themed booths, while the Class Management Department led classes in decorating the campus with Spring Festival couplets, filling the school with festive cheer. In the brushstrokes of calligraphy and the sound of laughter, enthusiasm for tradition and a shared sense of purpose quietly took root.

Auspicious Beginnings: Lion Dance Welcomes the Spring

At midday, the fourth-floor terrace resounded with drums and cymbals as two lively lion dance troupes leapt and spun, offering blessings for the new season. The dynamic performance not only ushered in the spirit of spring, but also symbolised the school's vitality and determination, officially opening Chinese Culture Festival in jubilant style.

Cultural Showcase in the Grand Hall

The Grand Hall on the ground floor was transformed into a living map of culture, with 24 themed booths on display. Exhibits ranged from explorations of economic insight and historical inquiry to spirited debating and innovative programming challenges. The Student Union and the four Houses – Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Mercury – also hosted prize booths that drew enthusiastic participation. Each booth was thoughtfully designed by teachers and students, blending academic depth with interactive enjoyment. Together they demonstrated the school's collaborative ethos and cross-curricular creativity.

A Celebration on Stage in the 800-seat Theatre

Meanwhile, the 800-seat Theatre became a dazzling cultural stage. A traditional costume showcase displayed the beauty of diverse heritage; group and solo dances enchanted the audience with grace and power; Class 9H2 sang a tribute to youth; and the Chinese orchestra and Chinese drum ensemble delivered stirring performances. A particularly heart-warming moment came when the four Houses joined teachers in song, filling the theatre with genuine emotion. The Chinese Drama Club presented Awaiting the Spring Breeze, portraying women's awakening, while students dressed as characters from Investiture of the Gods, Journey to the West and Romance of the Three Kingdoms moved through the audience, bringing humour and lively interaction.

The most memorable scene of all saw the Chinese Drum Ensemble perform A Man Should Better Himself alongside members of the Principal's Office. The resounding drums and rousing singing inspired senior students with confidence and resolve, reflecting the unity and shared commitment of the entire school community.

Intellectual Exchange in the Basketball Court

The indoor basketball court was equally animated. Grade 10 students competed in a Current Affairs and National Knowledge Quiz, demonstrating thoughtful engagement with cultural heritage and contemporary society. Grades 7 to 9 took part in a speech competition themed "Five Years – My Story with Pui Kiu", sharing heartfelt reflections on growing alongside the school. The Chinese Debate Academic Team staged a lively debate on whether cultural inheritance or innovation matters more, showcasing rigour and eloquence in equal measure.

"Spring Blossoms, Dreams Soar". Chinese culture is profound and enduring, and traditional festivals carry centuries of meaning. The success of this Chinese Culture Festival was made possible by the dedication and creativity of both teachers and students. Through today's rich and immersive experiences, students not only encountered the vibrancy of Chinese culture but also gained insight into the values it embodies.

May this experience plant a seed in their hearts – one that nurtures a lasting sense of cultural responsibility and inspires them to carry traditions forward. As the school marks its fifth anniversary, culture continues to be woven into both curriculum and campus life. Over these five years, teachers and students have worked side by side, building dreams and writing chapters of shared growth. We believe that in such fertile ground, every dream will one day take flight.
