2nd September marked the first day of the new academic year at Shenzhen Hong Kong Pui Kiu College Longhua Xinyi School (PKXYS). Basking in the autumn sun, the school and its staff warmly welcomed a fresh influx of enthusiastic and energetic students and parents. As the new academic year starts, special activities were organized by the kindergarten, primary, and secondary sections to help students quickly adapt to the new academic year and embark on new adventures. These activities include staggered entry, new student orientation, dormitory welcome events, and the opening ceremony. 

Dormitory Welcome Events

On 29th and 30th August, the dormitory department held welcome events, and the atmosphere was bustling with excitement. Bathed in bright sunshine, parents and students excitedly entered the campus and headed to the Grand Hall to attend the orientation seminar.

During the seminar, all attendees—students, teachers, and parents—watched the latest school promotional video and highlights of school activities. Following this, Principal Mr. Tommy WONG Tang Tat delivered a warm and enthusiastic welcome speech. He not only provided a detailed introduction to the school management team and class teachers but also highlighted key information such as academic arrangements, home-school communication, and the features of different curricula.

This year, the school designed three entry routes based on the schedules of new and returning students, as well as boarding students and day students. Over a hundred staff members supported on-site to ensure that all procedures ran smoothly and efficiently. Moreover, to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for the start of the academic year, the school set up many "photo spots" at the entrance and along the routes. These spots allowed parents and students to capture special moments on their first day of school.

In the afternoon, students participated in fun icebreaking games. Working in groups, they used body language and collected specific items to quickly get to know each other through both competitions and collaborations.

After the icebreakers, students also engaged in practical exercises on classroom etiquette, queuing, and assembly manners. They learned about the school song, school history, various school rules and requirements. Dressed in their neat uniforms and immersed in the same school culture, the students are expected to quickly adapt to campus life in the new semester, find a sense of belonging within the larger community, and enjoy a rich variety of activities both inside and outside the classroom, blending Western and Chinese cultural elements.

Opening Ceremonies for Primary and Secondary Sections

On 2nd September, students from the secondary and primary sections attended their opening ceremonies, held in the Grand Hall in the morning and afternoon respectively. School director Ms. LEE Pui Ah and all members of the Principal's Office, were present at the ceremony.

The ceremony featured three hosts who used Cantonese, Mandarin, and English respectively. Speeches were also delivered in Chinese and English by the school chancellor, the principal, and student representatives, showcasing the school's unique blend of Hong Kong and Shenzhen education.

The ceremony began with a solemn flag-raising, during which all attendees sang the national anthem to officially commence the new academic year. Mr. TSANG Yok Sing (GBM, GBS, JP), President of the 4th to 5th Legislative Council of the Hong Kong SAR, and Supervisor of PKXYS, and Mr. Tommy WONG Tang Tat, Principal of PKXYS, each delivered inspiring speeches. They  encouraged students to continue striving towards their goals in the new academic year, advancing on their desired academic and life paths.

At the ceremony, several student representatives shared interesting experiences from their summer holidays and study trips, and expressed their goals and excitement for the upcoming academic year.

After the grand opening ceremony, the Primary Section hosted a warm welcome event for new Grade 1 students. Fresh from kindergarten, these young learners are stepping into a vibrant new school environment, with their faces brimming with curiosity and excitement. At the event, Principal Mr. Tommy WONG Tang Tat and Executive Principal Ms. WANG Hongjun extended their heartfelt wishes to the children. They encouraged the students to embrace their primary school journey with a spirit of exploration, respect, understanding, and teamwork. Much like the Super Wings, our devoted teachers are committed to guiding every child towards growth and success.

First Day of School for Kindergarten

In September, children at Pui Kiu Xinyi Kindergarten returned to school with their curiosity, ready to embark on new explorations in the refreshed campus environment.

As the new academic year begins, the Kindergarten not only held a Parent Night to enthusiastically share its educational philosophy, course setting, and home-school collaboration strategies but also organized staggered entry and new student orientation. These arrangements facilitated a smooth transition for the children into kindergarten life. Seeing the joyful faces of the children, both parents and teachers felt happy and reassured.
