Brief Introduction to the Competition
The International Economics Olympiad, co-sponsored by Nobel laureate Eric Maskin and other scholars in 2017, is one of the thirteen international science Olympiads aimed at promoting the knowledge of economics, finance, business, and other disciplines among high school students around the world.
From 21st to 28th July 2025, the 8th International Economics Olympiad was held in Azerbaijan, where 258 top students from 52 countries and regions around the world, after rigorous selection, qualified to represent their respective countries and participated in the competition both online and offline.
Our Grade 10 student, SHI, became one of the five members of the Hong Kong, China Team after qualifying at the Hong Kong regional selection competition held in May. After competing in the three tests, including economics, finance, and business case studies, SHI won the bronze medal of the International Economics Olympiad with outstanding performance. This is the first time that our school has won an award in the international science Olympiad finals.
Reflection of Student SHI
This year, I participated in the International Economics Olympiad online as a member of the Hong Kong, China Team, and I felt very honoured to attend the competition. In addition to economic and financial tests for individuals, I also collaborated with my teammates online to complete the business case challenges, demonstrating the tacit understanding and power of teamwork. In the awarding ceremony, when I saw my name on the big screen, I was very excited and proud of myself. My experience from the competition and reflection on each question have strengthened my determination to pursue my further studies in economics in the future. I'd like to express my gratitude to all the teachers for their support and encouragement. In the days ahead, I will continue to work hard and pursue my dreams.

This year, I was once again appointed by the organisers of the International Economics Olympiad as the team leader of the Hong Kong, China Team, and I was very delighted that the student of our school won a bronze medal for the first time. Two years ago, I joined PKXYS and promoted the collaboration between economics teachers of our Hong Kong Curriculum and International Curriculum to jointly nurture and select outstanding students to participate in the International Economics Olympiad. Today, I finally tasted the fruit of victory for the first time. This award is of great significance to the teachers and students of our school and is also a great encouragement to us. I hope that the students of our school will take SHI as an example, continue to study hard, and constantly strive for excellence and progress.
Reflection of the Training Teacher GUAN
Over the past two years, I have been honoured to participate in the establishment of an Economics Olympiad Team with my colleagues from the Economics Panel of our International Curriculum and Hong Kong Curriculum, which made me feel extremely proud. From the talent recruitment and training to the preparation and motivation before the competition, every step, though full of challenges, also brought a great sense of achievement. I deeply realised that as long as the students set clear goals, they can unleash their great potential. During the preparation for the competition, they not only enhanced their knowledge of economics but also cultivated their analytical skills and teamwork spirit. Today's success is inseparable from the enthusiastic participation and persistent efforts of each student. This precious experience also inspires us to achieve higher goals and cultivate more outstanding students in economics.
