A First Step into Primary School——Pui Kiu Xinyi Kindergarten K3–Primary Transition Experience Day
Moving from the joyful world of kindergarten to the structured and exciting environment of primary school is a significant milestone in every child's development. To help K3 pupils become familiar with the primary school setting, classroom routines and daily expectations — and to ease any uncertainty about the transition — Pui Kiu Xinyi Kindergarten, in collaboration with the Primary Division, organised a themed experience day entitled "Journey of Growth: Discovering Primary School". Through a carefully designed programme including simulated primary lessons, social skills development, self-management training, and confidence-building activities, the event aimed to support children in making a smooth and positive transition. Bathed in warm spring sunshine and filled with anticipation, our eager future Primary One pupils stepped onto the primary campus to begin an enriching and memorable exploration of growth.


Exploring the Campus – An Organised and Exciting Start
At the start of the day, K3 pupils set off in groups under the guidance of their teachers. Lined up neatly and full of energy, they made their way to the primary campus with excitement written across their faces.

The bright corridors, tidy classrooms, green playground and welcoming canteen captured their attention. Curious questions flowed: "Is this where primary school pupils have lessons?" "Can we play here later?" Their simple words reflected genuine anticipation and marked the official beginning of their primary school experience.

A Taste of Primary Lessons – Becoming "Primary One Pupils"
Leaving behind the more relaxed atmosphere of kindergarten, the children stepped into structured yet welcoming primary classrooms. They followed the rhythm of primary lessons — greeting teachers, sitting upright, listening attentively and raising their hands to speak. They adapted remarkably quickly to classroom expectations, showing focus and maturity beyond their years. The experience lessons covered nine engaging subjects: PE, Chinese, English, Mathematics, STEAM, Visual Arts, Library, Third Language, and Mental Health — offering a comprehensive glimpse into the richness of primary learning.


PE – Active Learning in Motion
The experience day began with an energetic PE lesson on the spacious fourth-floor playground. With sports dance as the theme, the session opened with a thorough warm-up to stretch and activate different muscle groups. Pupils then practised directional steps to develop balance and coordination before learning the basic cha-cha steps to lively music. They followed the teacher carefully, matching rhythm with movement, and concluded the session with relaxing stretches to unwind. The playground echoed with laughter as pupils released their energy, experienced the joy of movement, and learned the importance of teamwork and cooperation.


Chinese – Discovering the Beauty of Characters
The Chinese lesson centred on characters containing the "木" (wood) radical. Through an engaging hands-on spinning-wheel craft activity, pupils explored how the radical appears in different characters and discovered patterns in their structure. This was complemented by the recitation of lively children's poems, where rhythm and pronunciation brought the language to life. By combining movement, speech and creativity, pupils not only strengthened their recognition of characters but also developed an appreciation for the richness and musicality of the Chinese language.


English – Celebrating Arbor Day
The English lesson embraced the theme of Arbor Day in an interactive and immersive setting. Pupils read a themed picture book together, with the teacher guiding them through questions that developed listening and comprehension skills. During group activities, they practised writing their English names and created simple yet imaginative craft pieces. Encouraged to communicate using basic English phrases, pupils gained confidence in speaking and interacting naturally in an English-language environment.


Mathematics – Tangram Exploration
Mathematics came alive through a tangram challenge. The teacher first introduced the seven geometric shapes and demonstrated how they could be arranged to form animals and other figures, sparking pupils' curiosity. In the hands-on session that followed, pupils used tangram stickers to recreate specific animal designs based on visual prompts. As they concentrated on positioning each piece correctly, they developed spatial awareness, logical thinking and fine motor skills. Completing their designs — and taking them home — gave them a strong sense of achievement.


STEAM – Discovering How Force Changes Shape
In the STEAM lesson, themed "Self-made Toys", pupils explored the idea that force can change the shape of objects. After a simple introduction to the concept, they experimented with modelling clay, pressing, rolling, stretching and shaping it into trees and small animals. Through playful exploration rather than formal instruction, pupils experienced scientific principles first-hand, stimulating curiosity, imagination and creative thinking.


Visual Arts – Building My New House
The Visual Arts lesson, titled "Build My New House", was filled with colour and creativity. Pupils cut out geometric shapes, arranged them into house structures, and decorated their creations with paint and embellishments. Each artwork reflected a unique vision, demonstrating imagination and personal expression. Through cutting, arranging and colouring, pupils explored how lines and colours can convey ideas and emotions while experiencing the joy of artistic creation.


Library – A Reading Treasure Hunt
The library session transformed into a lively treasure hunt. Pupils were introduced to the library's ten main book categories and learned simple techniques for locating books independently. They then drew themed prompts and searched the shelves to find matching titles, discovering the excitement of independent exploration. The session concluded with a "wish tree" activity, where pupils wrote down their reading hopes and displayed them proudly — symbolically planting the seeds of a lifelong love of reading.


Third Language – A First Encounter with German
In the Third Language session, pupils enjoyed their first exposure to German through a simple tree-planting song. They learned three basic vocabulary items accompanied by actions to support memory. As they sang along to the melody, combining movement and sound, they experienced the fun and novelty of learning a new language, broadening their horizons in an engaging and accessible way.


Mental Health – Growing Towards the Sun
The Mental Health lesson, themed "Growing Towards the Sun", focused on positive growth and resilience. Using child-friendly explanations, the teacher encouraged pupils to grow like seedlings reaching towards sunlight — brave, optimistic and strong. During a hands-on planting activity, pupils carefully potted small plants, learning responsibility and patience while nurturing something living. The experience symbolised personal growth and emotional development.


Lunchtime – Developing Independence
Following the morning's rich learning experiences, pupils visited the primary canteen for break time and lunch. In the bright and orderly setting, they queued neatly, collected their meals independently and politely thanked the catering staff. They practised good dining habits — eating without fuss, avoiding waste and maintaining appropriate table manners. Sharing conversations with friends over lunch, they experienced both independence and community, gaining a deeper understanding of the primary school expectation that "we take responsibility for ourselves".


A Warm Conclusion – Stepping Forward with Confidence
The joyful morning drew to a close all too quickly, bringing a rich and immersive experience to a successful conclusion. From the energetic PE lesson and engaging subject sessions to the independent lunchtime routine, pupils gained first-hand insight into primary school learning and daily life. They experienced the structured rhythm of lessons, the vibrant atmosphere of campus life and the expectations of greater independence. Through this meaningful introduction, any uncertainty about primary school was gently eased, replaced with curiosity and anticipation. More importantly, the experience planted seeds of confidence, responsibility and a genuine enthusiasm for learning. Along the way, pupils practised following rules, communicating proactively and managing tasks independently, while also gaining joy, friendship and a sense of personal growth.

Transitioning from kindergarten to primary school is not a sudden leap, but a carefully supported and reassuring journey. It is not about rushing children forward, but about preparing them thoughtfully for the next stage of development. Pui Kiu Xinyi Kindergarten remains committed to a child-centred approach, ensuring that every step of the transition is guided with care and purpose. May each K3 pupil carry forward the confidence and excitement gained from this experience, stepping into primary school with courage and curiosity, ready to begin a new chapter. As they continue along their path of growth, may they flourish brightly and create their own remarkable stories.
Admission Application Procedure
Notes of Admission Application for 2026-2027 Kindergarten
1.Application Procedures
· The submission period for admission application will end on 7th March 2026.
· Parents are required to apply online by completing the application form on our website. Upon confirmation of your application (with candidate number), applicants will be invited to join the admission assessment which will be held in end of March 2026.
2.The assessment arrangements will be announced on our school website on 14 March 2026 (Saturday) after 6:00 p.m. Parents are required to make use of the “Candidate Number” of your child in enquiring about the arrangements.

· Student’s recent colour photo (1.5 x 2 inch)
· Identity Document(s) of student (Copy)
· Copies of year-end school reports (If any)
· Student learning portfolio (If any): Recommendation letters, records of extra-curricular activities or awards
3.Proposed School fees
New Student school fees for the year of 2025/2026: CNY160,000 per year, payable in 2 installments.
