PKXYS Awarded the Title of Guangdong Provincial Model Group for Ethnic Unity and Progress:

The Only School in Shenzhen to Receive This Honour in 2025

On 14th October, the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPC and Government held a grand ceremony to recognise the 2025 Model Groups and Individuals for Ethnic Unity and Progress. Among the recipients, Shenzhen Hong Kong Pui Kiu College Longhua Xinyi School (PKXYS) was named a Model Group, in recognition of its outstanding contributions and innovative practices in ethnic unity and progress. The school is the only institution in Shenzhen to receive this provincial-level honour in 2025, and notably, the only HKDSE examination centre on the Chinese Mainland to be awarded this distinction — a testament to its unique leadership role in fostering integration between Hong Kong and Mainland education and promoting unity among ethnic groups.

As one of the first pilot schools for cross-border educational collaboration in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area—and the first and currently only school in China to offer Hong Kong, international, and mainland curricula simultaneously—the school remains firmly committed to its founding values of patriotism with affection for our country and Hong Kong, diversity, and inclusion. With a strong focus on nurturing a shared sense of national identity, the school has developed a unique path of education for ethnic unity and progress, with Greater Bay Area characteristics — combining carefully designed curriculum, immersive cultural experiences, and extensive real-world learning opportunities.

Party-Led Approach: Building a Collaborative Ecosystem for Learning

Ethnic unity education is embedded within the school's overall Party-building strategy, with a well-established collaboration framework linking school, home, and community. Through themed and independent learning modules, teacher training in ethnic education is continuously strengthened. The school also partners with the District United Front Work Department and the District Education Bureau to deliver workshops on national ethnic policy, reinforcing the core concepts of "Four Shared Foundations" (Our vast territory was built together by all ethnic groups; Our long history was written together by all ethnic groups; Our brilliant culture was created together by all ethnic groups; Our great national spirit was nurtured together by all ethnic groups) and deepening the "Five Affirmations" (affirmation of our great motherland, the Chinese nation, Chinese culture, the leadership of the Communist Party of China, and socialism with Chinese characteristics), achieving a deep integration of ethnic policy education with the promotion of core socialist values.

Innovative Curriculum: Promoting Interaction, Understanding, and Integration

At the primary level, subjects such as Ethics, Life and Society and Growth Train explore the cultural traditions of China's 56 ethnic groups through topics like traditional clothing, cuisine, and housing. At the secondary level, interdisciplinary materials have been developed for Chinese History and Citizenship and Social Development, alongside research-based modules such as Cross-border Studies under the Belt and Road Initiative, broadening students' global perspectives while rooting them in national identity.

Beyond the Classroom: Real-World Learning That Brings Cultures Together

The school actively cultivates an inclusive campus culture, hosting regular events such as Moral Education Assemblies, Chinese Culture Days, and flag-raising ceremonies. Students take part in a wide range of activities, including study tours to border regions, traditional paper-cutting workshops, Shenzhen-Hong Kong innovation forums, and joint programmes for Hong Kong and Shenzhen youth. Notably, the school has co-hosted a series of Greater Bay Area Youth Summits, which received high praise from leaders across Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Macao, and were widely covered by over 50 major media outlets, including People's Daily, Ta Kung Pao, and Wen Wei Po, leaving a lasting social impact.
